Keel and masts

Masts

Below you can see the making of the masts and gaffs of the Quadra summarized in a few images. Unfortunately, it is difficult to visualize the amount of work: from drawing the designs, making the mast fitings and gaff fittings, cutting all the parts, delivering the right aluminium tubes to puzzling, fitting and welding everything together.

We were lucky that N. Dijkstra Metaalbewerking, where the masts were made, had a free hall where the masts could stay. So we painted the masts right away. And fitted all the electric cables, lights, antennas, radar, wind gauge, etc.

Keel extension

In the previous blog we already showed how the keel was made. In early April the keel was filled with 15 tonnes of lead as required ballast for the ship. The video shows the molten lead being poured into the keel.

On April 11th, the Quadra was taken out of the water and finally got her full keel back. It took 2 weeks of fitting, grinding and welding, before the keel extension was finally attached to the hull.
The hull was then sandblasted and primed. Painted half blue and half green and missing part of her keel she went indoors and May 2nd she came out being complete again and looking beautiful!
Quadra has been given a new look in the past 3 weeks. Much better and in the shape that belongs to her! But this look will get even better. Starting May 12th, the puttying, sanding and painting of the hull will begin.
